Places to Eat in Merritt

Home Restaurant, Merritt, B.C., Canada

If you love old- fashioned diner food, and are looking for restaurants in Merritt, you can be sure that you and your family will enjoy the taste of a Home Restaurant meal.

Breakfast at Home Restaurant

When I am looking for “Restaurants in Merritt” where I can breakfast with a friend, the family friendly Home Restaurant is always on my short list! I suggest leaving some extra time in your schedule though, because this place is popular and you may have a short wait.Restaurants in Merritt

The line and the entertainment

We never worry about waiting because the line moves quickly and we like to watch kids eat while we are waiting. It is royally entertaining! Ever watch a little one exploring the potential of his first French fry? Hilarious! Children can do a lot more with a French fry than eat it!

From the time we entered until the time we left we always saw the staff and servers at Home Restaurant acting patient with all their customers. This is the norm here, even when the customers turn out to be an entire soccer team of eight to ten-year-olds! Of all the restaurants in Merritt, Home Restaurant may be the most fun.

Comfy seating

A pleasant, smiling hostess showed us to a quiet table. It was in a lovely patch of sunlight, a nice start to our visit. She poured us coffees and left us to eye up the breakfast menu. Now came the big decision. What to order?

Decisions

The menu was a trip down memory lane! Most restaurants in Merritt serve breakfast, but this was something else! Fat pancakes, french toast, toast (several kinds), bacon, eggs in all their many forms, ham, sausage, steaks and two kinds of hash browns! That isn’t all, just the ones I remember! Oh, and oatmeal too, if you feel that you want to deprive yourself, although since it does come with brown sugar and cream, I could hardly call it real deprivation!

We both asked for the bacon and egg breakfast, she chose the home fries, I the shredded. We both asked for our bacon crisp and actually got it that way

Bacon & Eggs over easy!

 Our breakfasts arrive

When our breakfasts arrived we took a few pictures so you could feast your eyes on our delicious, ungreasy meals. This, among restaurants in Merritt, is a treat.

We both enjoy bacon and eggs but not swimming in fat. Ours were perfect! Eggs over easy without a trace of fat, crispy, delicious bacon, crisp hash browns and well buttered toast (choice of jams etc.). Good coffee too, my friend tells m

The best surprise is the price. Breakfasts start at $9.00 for quite a large meal and can go up to $18.49 for something really enormous! Either way, you get bang for your buck and a very full belly!

The Grand Finale

Snickerdoodle Cheesecake & Coconut Cream pie

Full and satisfied we thought we were finished eating. However, manager Jenny Wheeler pulled out all the stops at the dessert station. She tempted us with mile high pies and cheesecakes! She pointed out, with a wicked grin, that we could always take them home for later.

“Today’s feature”, she said “is snickerdoodle cheesecake and coconut cream pie”. We caved. The snickerdoodle cheesecake snagged us both! We left with two big pieces! If you are looking for restaurants in Merritt to get good desserts, don’t miss Home Restaurant.

I first discovered the Home Restaurant chain when I was snowed in at Hope, B.C. I asked where I could get a good meal and was sent across the street to the Home Restaurant. Although I waited nearly a half hour to get in, it was worth it! Ever since, I have been a loyal customer!

The other Home Restaurants are in Sorrento, Salmon Arm and Maple Ridge, all in British Columbia. Don’t miss them!
